Japan's cherry blossoms usually bloom from late March to early April in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka; official forecasts usually come out in January–February.
- Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka: usually peak around 25 March – 7 April.
- South (Fukuoka): a few days earlier; north (Tohoku, Hokkaido): late April to early May.
- Peak bloom lasts only about a week, so keep your plans flexible.
- Book flights and rooms in December–January, as this is the busiest season of the year.
- Apply for your Japan visa early.
Note: avoid Golden Week (late April to early May) unless you don't mind crowds and high prices.
