✈ From the airport to Bangkok
Bus A1
Don Mueang Airport (DMK) → Mo Chit BTS
30 min
< $1
Go out through Exit 6 in the Terminal 1 arrivals hall and look for the "BMTA Bus" sign. Pay cash directly to the conductor once on board; the flat fare is 30 THB wherever you get off. Have small change ready and avoid large notes.
Flat fare, so there is no risk of being overcharged. Luggage space on board is limited, and at rush hour you may have to stand the whole way.
SRT Red Line
Don Mueang Airport (DMK) → Bang Sue Grand Station
17 min
$1
A skywalk connects the airport directly to the station. Buy a token from a machine or a staffed counter; THB cash only. Scan the token at the gate. SRT tickets are not valid on the MRT/BTS, so buy a separate ticket if you are continuing.
Fixed listed fares, no risk. Note: at Bang Sue you still need to change to the MRT to reach the centre.
Airport Rail Link (City Line)
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) → Sukhumvit / Asok
30 min
$1
Follow the signs down to level B. Buy a token from the machine or the counter; THB cash only. Ride to Phaya Thai station, then change to the BTS.
No risks on the train itself. Taxi touts wait in the arrivals hall; do not follow them.
Bus S1
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) → Khao San Road
60 min
$2
Level 1, next to Gate 7. Board the bus and pay the conductor in cash; flat fare of 60 THB wherever you get off. No advance tickets. Avoid paying with 500/1000 THB notes.
Flat fare, so no risk of being overcharged. The main risk is missing the last bus at 20:00.
Metered taxi (public rank)
Don Mueang Airport (DMK) → Khao San Road
40 min
$9–$14 · per vehicle
Taxi counters are on level 1 of international Terminal 1 next to Gate 8, or in domestic Terminal 2 next to Gate 15. Take a ticket at the counter and do not follow touts. Ask the driver to use the meter.
The 50 THB airport surcharge added to the meter is LEGITIMATE according to Thailand's Ministry of Transport, not a scam. Passengers pay expressway tolls in cash at the toll booths.
Metered taxi (public rank)
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) → Sukhumvit / Asok
45 min
$11–$17 · per vehicle
Floor 1, public taxi counter between Gates 4-7. Take a ticket from the automatic machine; do NOT follow touts. Ask the driver to turn on the meter.
The 50 THB airport surcharge is LEGITIMATE under the Ministry of Transport notice, not a rip-off. Expressway tolls of about 70 THB are paid by the passenger in cash. The "meter is broken, fixed price" line is a scam.
Grab
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) → Sukhumvit / Asok
45 min
$12–$21 · per vehicle
Install the Grab app before your flight. Follow the signs to the airport's dedicated Grab pick-up point, not the taxi counter. The fare is shown in the app before you book.
The fare is fixed in the app, no haggling. But between 01:00-04:00 it is very hard to get a driver. Prices are dynamic, so at peak times they can be higher than a metered taxi.
Pre-booked private transfer
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) → Sukhumvit / Asok
45 min
$25–$37 · per vehicle
Book online in advance (Klook, Trip.com or a transfer company) before your flight date. The driver meets you in the arrivals hall holding a name sign. The price is fixed in advance, with no extra expressway tolls.
Fixed price, no risk of being overcharged. The trade-off is that it is the most expensive option. Worth it for groups of 3-4 or night arrivals.
