The best way is the train: about 2.5 hours for 103 km, with sea views over the Hai Van Pass. A soft seat costs 77,000–190,000 VND ($3–7) when booked directly with Vietnam Railways.
- Fastest trains: SE2 (about 2h28) and SE4 (about 2h37). The HD2 heritage train is slower (just under 4 hours) but stops at Lang Co.
- Where to sit: going north to Hue, sit on the right; going south to Da Nang, sit on the left.
- Book direct: agencies charge about $14–15 for the same seat.
- By car or bus: faster door to door, but it uses the Hai Van Tunnel, so you miss the coastal views.
- By motorbike or private car over the pass: the scenic choice. Motorbikes are not allowed in the tunnel and must ride the pass road.
