The easiest way is a limousine van with Old Quarter pickup: about 2 hours and roughly $8–10 per seat. Buses and vans run all day, from early morning to late evening.
- Limousine van: about $8–10. Most operators pick you up at your hotel in the Old Quarter and drop you in Ninh Binh city or Tam Coc. Confirm the drop-off point when booking.
- Train: 7 trains a day from Hanoi Station; about $12–14 through booking sites. Comfortable and on time, but Ninh Binh station is in the city, so you still need a Grab to Tam Coc or Trang An.
- Private car: from about $46 per car. Worth it for a group or a day trip.
Day trip or overnight? Staying one night lets you see Trang An and Tam Coc early, before tour buses arrive.
