What should you know about public transport in Paris?

Get a Navigo Easy card (€2) and load single or day tickets at ticket machines or in the Île-de-France Mobilités app. iPhone users can also buy tickets with Apple Pay.

  • No more zones: a €2.55 ticket covers Metro, trains and RER across Île-de-France. Changing Metro lines is free.
  • Airport trips need a separate ticket, priced at €14.
  • Keep your ticket until you leave the station: checks can happen anytime, and some journeys require you to tap out.
  • The Metro usually runs from 5:30 to 0:30. Later than that, take a Noctilien night bus (marked N). If you travel a lot, compare single tickets with a day pass or other passes.
  • Worth trying: the hop-on hop-off Batobus with 9 stops near the Eiffel Tower, Musée d'Orsay, Notre-Dame and the Louvre; and Metro line 6, which crosses the Seine near Passy/Bir-Hakeim with views of the Eiffel Tower. Plan routes with Citymapper, Google Maps or Île-de-France Mobilités.

Note: Watch your phone and wallet at busy stations such as Châtelet and Gare du Nord.
