Your experience of New York changes a lot by season: a few weeks can mean the difference between warm sunshine and freezing streets, and prices move with the weather.
- Autumn (September–November): plenty of events and pleasant weather. A shoulder season, with fewer crowds and slightly lower prices.
- Summer (June to early September): the busiest season, hot and humid but full of outdoor activities. Great for a first visit.
- Winter (December–February): busy around Christmas, with endless holiday events, but temperatures can drop below freezing, so pack a warm coat, gloves and non-slip shoes.
- Spring (March–May): the city comes back to life after winter, with warming weather before the busy summer.
