5 tips for staying in Florence

Florence · Updated 2026-10 · From MeTravel's own trips

  • On a budget, stay in San Lorenzo or San Marco: close to the centre but cheaper than areas right next to the sights.
  • Compare hotel and hostel prices: many Florence hostels have clean private rooms at much lower prices than hotels, good for friends or couples.
  • Book popular restaurants ahead: well-known places fill up, especially in the evening and in high season.
  • Avoid staying right next to the big museums such as the Uffizi or the Accademia: those areas are always crowded with queues, noisy and pricey. A few minutes' walk away is still convenient and more pleasant.
  • Have your passport ready at Airbnbs: under Italian law, hosts must register their guests, so they will ask for a photo or to see your passport. This is normal, not a scam.
