Paying in Europe

Europe · Updated 2026-10

Contactless international card works in most countries.

  • Many cities let you tap your card directly on transport.
  • Carry a little euro cash for small cafés, public toilets and markets.
  • Czechia (CZK), Hungary (HUF) and Switzerland (CHF) use their own currencies, not the euro.

Note: when a terminal offers to charge in your home currency, always pick the local currency to avoid poor rates.
