Switzerland has fewer markets than Germany, but the snow, mountains and lakes are stunning; prices are much higher.
- Zurich: a market inside the main station (one of Europe's largest indoor markets) and on Opera House square.
- Basel: on Münsterplatz and Barfüsserplatz, often rated Switzerland's most beautiful.
- Montreux: on the shores of Lake Geneva, with a train up Rochers-de-Naye to meet Santa.
- Lucerne: small markets, old town and the Kapellbrücke wooden bridge.
Note: The currency is the Swiss franc (CHF), not the euro; many stalls accept euros but give change in francs at a poor rate, so pay by card or carry a few francs. Market food costs noticeably more than in Germany or Austria, so budget ahead.
MeTravel will provide updates on its fanpage regarding when the market will open.
