When should I book flights for the year-end and Lunar New Year holidays?

For every trip · Updated 2026-10 · From MeTravel's own trips

Year-end and Lunar New Year fares rarely drop — they mostly rise — so book as early as you can, ideally 2–3 months ahead.

  • Direct flights on weekdays (Tuesday, Wednesday) are usually cheaper than weekends.
  • Avoid peak dates: 23–24 Dec, 30–31 Dec and right before Tet; flying 2–3 days earlier or later saves a lot.
  • Compare on Google Flights and Skyscanner, then book directly with the airline if the difference is small.
  • Low-cost carriers: add baggage and seat fees before comparing prices.
  • Set price alerts for the routes you want.

Note: if you need a visa, book refundable or changeable fares, or hold a reservation until your visa comes through.
