How many days do you need in Florence, and can you walk everywhere?

Florence · Updated 2026-10 · From MeTravel's own trips

About three days is enough to get to know Florence:

  • Days 1–2: Florence is compact and very walkable, so two days covers the main sights and museums.
  • Day 3: a day trip to Bologna, the Chianti wine region or Milan.

You can walk everywhere in central Florence: the neighbourhoods sit close together and the streets are very pedestrian-friendly. Walking from San Marco across the Arno River to Oltrarno takes under 30 minutes, with the major sights along the way.
