Where should I stay in Shanghai on my first visit?

Shanghai · Updated 2026-10 · From MeTravel's own trips

Around People's Square or Nanjing Road is the most convenient: walk to the Bund, with many metro lines.

  • People's Square – Nanjing Road: central, great shopping, rooms at all prices.
  • The Bund: Huangpu River views, beautiful but pricey.
  • Jing'an: upscale and calm, lots of cafés.
  • Former French Concession: leafy streets and old villas, great for strolling.
  • Pudong (Lujiazui): near the Oriental Pearl Tower and skyscrapers; see the Bund from across the river.

Note: stay near metro Line 2, which runs straight to both Pudong and Hongqiao airports.
