Lunar New Year 2027 falls on 6 February 2027. It's also New Year in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Singapore, so you can travel but need to plan carefully.
- China: the holiday week is the year's biggest travel rush; domestic trains and flights are packed and many sights overcrowded.
- Hong Kong: parades and fireworks; many small shops close for the first few days.
- Taiwan: many shops close and high-speed rail sells out; temples have a lovely festive atmosphere.
- Korea (Seollal): locals head home and Seoul is quieter; palaces and many museums stay open, but some restaurants close.
- Singapore: Chinatown's decorations are beautiful, with little disruption for visitors.
Note: to avoid crowds and high prices, go a week before Lunar New Year or after the 7th day.
